Granny Mae is the heart and soul of The Perky Pilgrim. Born and raised in the rolling hills of Eastern Tennessee, she’s been a beloved figure in the community for as long as anyone can remember. With her warm smile, twinkling eyes, and a knack for making everyone feel like family, Granny Mae is the kind of person who makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile.
Growing up on her family’s farm, Mae learned the value of hard work and the importance of good, honest food. She spent her younger years tending to crops, baking pies, and brewing coffee for her hardworking family. Her love for coffee started early, and she’s been perfecting her craft ever since.
After raising three children and spoiling seven grandchildren, Granny Mae decided to open The Perky Pilgrim as a way to share her passion for coffee and community. “I wanted a place where folks could gather, share stories, and feel at home,” she says with a chuckle. “And if I can sneak a cookie or two into their hands, well, that’s just the cherry on top!”
Granny Mae is famous for her homemade cookies, her secret-recipe apple pie, and her ability to remember every customer’s name and favorite drink. She’s also known for her endless supply of wisdom, whether it’s advice on life, love, or the perfect cup of coffee.
When she’s not behind the counter, you can find her tending to her garden, knitting scarves for her grandkids, or sitting by the fireplace with a good book and a cup of her signature Mae’s Maple Latte.
